post on other people's walls
Hey Ashley great post sounds like you are really thinking about the in's and out's of vacuuming and have a great understanding of ergonomics. Just wondering if you though of putting it under person, occupation and environment and hence relating it back to occupational therapy.

Hey Dave
sounds like a lot of hard work is going into your garden, but it sounds like you will get a lot of rewards out of it. Here is a quote that might help you with defining ambience 'Ambience is described as a feeling or mood associated with a particular place, person or thing' (Sunderland, 2010)

Hey kirsty
Sounds like cleaning is really important in your life I like how you have put it into person, environment, and activity. Have you thought of maybe relating it back to occupational therapy.

Hey Jazmine
The website on your blog is so good gives you heaps of interesting facts about coffee. Did you think of defining ergonomic's here is a quote that i used Caulton and Dickson (2007) states that an understanding of ergonomics underpins the ability to constantly make slight invisible adjustments to an activity to adapt the needs of those taking part and ensure that it continues to work for it's intended purpose.

Ambience
Ambience is stated in the Oxford dictionary (2011) as the character and atmosphere of a place but in this paper Ambience is described as a feeling or mood associated with a particular place, person or thing (Sunderland, 2010)
With card playing it makes me feel relaxed, I get a sense of peace and belonging being with people through interacting with them, I feel connected to my younger self as well as people who have played the game before me, it gives you a sense of being apart of something bigger. Because card playing for me creates such a fun and enjoyable atmosphere where people are laughing and joking you feel that sense of accomplishment when you win a hand and get enjoyment out of others people success when they win it gives you that drive to keep going and beat them.
When I am studying hard and I feel that my brain needs a break I click on the game tab on my computer an involve myself in a game of spider solitaire, it is a way for my to change my thought pattern from thinking about studying with stress and worry and think about something else. It feels like a tiny escape from the world of chaos and allows me to gather my thoughts and just concentrate on something else for a few minutes it relaxes me and i get a sense of accomplishment and pride if i win a game and puts me back in a good frame of mind to start up studying again.

Card playing with the brain injury group
As part of my placement for fieldwork 2 I went with Lucy to the Brain Injury Assoication. At the start we didn't really know what to expect and we were told just to mingle with the people in the group. There were people sitting around talking and there were a group of men that were playing card, this caught my eye and I immediatly gravited towards them. Because this was a new environment to me and I didn't know the people, it was quite stressful for me to think about what I was going to talk about to the people. As soon as saw the cards I felt more as ease because this was a way that I could communicate and socialise with the people in the group with out the pressure of continuously having to come up with conversation. With cards I feel that you can talk when you want to it allows you time to come up with conversation because you can let the cards talk for you, cards allow non-verbal socialization.
Playing with the men was a good way for them to get to know us, they could explain the rules and how to play. And it provided them with conversation to talk to us, and banter about how you played the card etc.
It felt that anyhow the men would joke about playing a wrong move it was always in a light hearted way and I feel that playing the cards was never about the competition of it, it was more about having fun and socializing with people.
I think that the need to do activity ranges from person to person I feel that my need is that level of connection through communication with peers, which leads to a sense of engagement. Card playing makes me feel included and sociable, it is a way to engage with peers and thinking of strategies to win. I get enjoyment out of winning and discussion's with the people I'm playing with. I like the way that card playing can bring people together you don't have to know someone very well to play a card game with them and it gives you some common ground to talk about, card playing can be a way of forming new relationships.

Affordance 2
Aesthetics
The beauty cards can be expressed in different ways, shuffling and dealing has it's own technique and beauty. The different techniques of shuffling are the riffle shuffle which is where the deck is divided into two roughly equal-sized halves that are bended and then released so that the cards interlace (Wikipedia, 2011). The overhead shuffle and the Hindu shuffle are two techniques that work by taking batches of cards from the top of the deck and reassembling them in the opposite order.
Cards are normally rectangular in shape and have two sides. One side of the card is normally all the same and the other side is different and unique. I think the beauty of card playing is in the game's as well, how people have come up with all these complex and interesting game's and the different techniques that people can apply to the game's. I also think that it is interesting that it can be such a good way to socialise and communicate with people and also a way that people can interact non-verbally if they want to.
Spirituality
Card playing is dated back to the 19th century in China, so in other words it has been around for a long time and you can't help to feel a connection between with ancesters through cards and how they would have played as a pass time, for socialisation.
Health
Card playing can be a way to relax by having a good time and sociliseing with other or when you are playing by yourself a way for you to unwind from a hard day or something stressful. I play some soiltare by myself when i'm studying when everything feels like it is getting on top of me and I am feeling very stressed about study I calm myself down by playing a game of spider soiltare it is a way to distract myself from my thoughts and just get fully involved in the game it allow me time to calm myself down. Card playing can boost yourself esteem in the way that if you win a game you feel a sense of forfullment or accomplishment.

A story about playing cards
Card playing is a type of play and 'play allows us to share common roots and sensibilities. wherever we live, whatever the culture from which we draw sustance' (Elliott, 2008)
Well it all started off with a plane trip to Auckland on a plane, I was with my boyfriend Kenton. Once we got up in the air I got out my ipod and started to listen to it i then looked across to Kenton and realised that he didn't bring his ipod and had nothing to do on the hour and a half flight to Auckland. I then remembered that I had put cards in my pocket, and because I didn't want him to be left out with nothing to do I asked him if he wanted to play. We decided to play a game that we play together often and this was shithead.
Players and Cards

I then remembered that I had put cards in my pocket, and because I didn't want him to be left out with nothing to do I asked him if he wanted to play. We decided to play a game that we play together often and this was shithead.
Players and Cards
From two to five may play. The game is best is with at least three.
The game requires one regular 52-card deck. The cards rank highest to lowest 2, A, K, Q, J, 10, . . . , 2
Deal
The deal rotates clockwise after each hand.
- The dealer deals a row of three face-down cards to each player, one at a time.
- The dealer deals three cards face-up to each player, one at a time, covering the face-down cards.
- The dealer deals a three card hand face-down to each player, one at a time.
Any cards remaining undealt are placed face down to form a draw pile. The players pick up their three card hands and look at them.
Before play each player may exchange any number of cards from the hand with her face-up cards. A player may never look at the face-down cards until they are played.
Play of the Cards
Play of the Cards
The person with the lowest card starts which is usually the 3, the person who has the lowest card plays first and puts that card face down in the middle so that everyone can see and then replaces that card by picking up cards from the draw pile. The next person plays and has to put a card down of equal or higher value and this continues until someone is unable to put a card down that is of equal or greater value and then that person has to pick up the pile of face up cards. Play continues until you have got rid of all of your hand and the draw pile then you can move onto the 6 cards on the ground in front of you, you have to get rid of the three face up cards and then you can move onto the 3 that are face down you have to play these cards face down so you can't look at them till you have played them, the rules that the card has to be equal or greater then the card played before it so if you can't beat it you have to pick up the pile. The person who gets rid of there card first is the winner.
Twos may always be played on any card, and any card may be played on a two.
A ten may be played on any turn, whatever the top card of the discard pile is (or even if the pile is empty). When a ten is played, the discard pile is removed from play and thesame player who played the ten takes another turn, playing any card or set of equal cards to start a new discard pile.
If someone completes a set of four cards of the same rank on top of the discard pile (either by playing all four cards at once or by equalling the previous play), the whole pile is removed from play, and the same player who completed the four of a kind takes another turn, playing any card or set of equal cards to start a new discard pile. (McLeod, 2011)
This is a game that Kenton and I play often and there is a bit of competition between us and it can get quite competitive. This game that we play was a way that we could interact with each other and a way that we could pass time on the flight. It also gives us a new topic to talk about around the cards

plot of the story
Opening night of the world cup and I was in Auckland. I was with my cousin's and my boyfriend, two of my cousin's came over from Italy there names are Niko and Luca. We were waiting for the fireworks to start and we were sitting in the Parnell Rose Gardens with hundreds of other people.
I happened to have cards in my pocket from the plane ride, I got them out because my two younger cousin's Niko and Luca were getting a bit restless waiting for the fireworks to start. So I started off with asking them if they wanted to play a game of cards and a discussion began with what game we would play, Luca didn't know many card games and so we decided to play a game he had played before last card.
I explained the game because Luca and Niko hadn't played for a while and needed to be refreshed as to how to play. Luca can't speak English all that well and sometimes I speak to fast for him so I asked Niko to explain the rules to him in Italian to ensure he knew what he was doing and then we started playing.
By this time it was dark and was a bit hard to see, some kind people next to us saw this and gave us a flashlight that we could use. We began to play as we were playing there were discussions on the rules and tactic's.
As people became more confident in the game a bit of competition started and there was less conversation and more concentration on the card playing and trying to win, we played 3 games and stopped because our food came.

Communication
- Listening to the rules
- Form of communication about the cards gives everybody a topic to talk about
- Also a form of communication that is non-verbal it gave the kids who couldn't speak English so well a chance to have a break from speaking English and still be able socialise with us.
- Provides an environment where we could have banter about the cards and joke with each other
- Asking permission if they wanted to play giving them a chance to decide if they want to play or not.
- I took the role of the organiser, organising the cards and giving out the intructions
- Graditude in providing an activity for them to do and for the flash light
- negotiation around what rules we were going to play.
Moral Properties

Friendly Competive
Taking the competative side out of it because we were playing to pass time
Level Playing field non-level playing field
