A story about playing cards

Card playing is a type of play and 'play allows us to share common roots and sensibilities. wherever we live, whatever the culture from which we draw sustance' (Elliott, 2008)

Well it all started off with a plane trip to Auckland on a plane, I was with my boyfriend Kenton. Once we got up in the air I got out my ipod and started to listen to it i then looked across to Kenton and realised that he didn't bring his ipod and had nothing to do on the hour and a half flight to Auckland. I then remembered that I had put cards in my pocket, and because I didn't want him to be left out with nothing to do I asked him if he wanted to play. We decided to play a game that we play together often and this was shithead.

Players and Cards

From two to five may play. The game is best is with at least three.
The game requires one regular 52-card deck. The cards rank highest to lowest 2, A, K, Q, J, 10, . . . , 2

Deal

The deal rotates clockwise after each hand.
  1. The dealer deals a row of three face-down cards to each player, one at a time.
  2. The dealer deals three cards face-up to each player, one at a time, covering the face-down cards.
  3. The dealer deals a three card hand face-down to each player, one at a time.
Any cards remaining undealt are placed face down to form a draw pile. The players pick up their three card hands and look at them.
Before play each player may exchange any number of cards from the hand with her face-up cards. A player may never look at the face-down cards until they are played.

Play of the Cards
The person with the lowest card starts which is usually the 3, the person who has the lowest card plays first and puts that card face down in the middle so that everyone can see and then replaces that card by picking up cards from the draw pile. The next person plays and has to put a card down of equal or higher value and this continues until someone is unable to put a card down that is of equal or greater value and then that person has to pick up the pile of face up cards. Play continues until you have got rid of all of your hand and the draw pile then you can move onto the 6 cards on the ground in front of you, you have to get rid of the three face up cards and then you can move onto the 3 that are face down you have to play these cards face down so you can't look at them till you have played them, the rules that the card has to be equal or greater then the card played before it so if you can't beat it you have to pick up the pile. The person who gets rid of there card first is the winner.

Twos may always be played on any card, and any card may be played on a two.
ten may be played on any turn, whatever the top card of the discard pile is (or even if the pile is empty). When a ten is played, the discard pile is removed from play and thesame player who played the ten takes another turn, playing any card or set of equal cards to start a new discard pile.
If someone completes a set of four cards of the same rank on top of the discard pile (either by playing all four cards at once or by equalling the previous play), the whole pile is removed from play, and the same player who completed the four of a kind takes another turn, playing any card or set of equal cards to start a new discard pile. (McLeod, 2011)

This is a game that Kenton and I play often and there is a bit of competition between us and it can get quite competitive. This game that we play was a way that we could interact with each other and a way that we could pass time on the flight. It also gives us a new topic to talk about around the cards
